Protection

“Drop the shield that protects me from you.”

Putting up walls seems prudent, when we’re barraged with negative influence day after day. And yet, how do we think about people when we put up these walls? Perhaps we are disgusted, and so put up the walls to create some distance and separateness. Often we are coming from a place of judgement.

There is another way. If we make a conscious choice to drop the walls and be open, we may experience people and events in a new light. We may welcome them with compassion, and realize that the apparent negativity we felt was our mind, projecting.

This reminds me of a piece of advice I found years ago in a book on meditation.

How do you become invulnerable? Let go of all your defences.

It dovetails very nicely with your post. Especially when we realise that the very act of having defences and putting up walls, essentially pitting our energies and selves against the world, is a cause of our pain and suffering. You’re right, we do project negativity, but it’s important to remember we project it inward as well as outward.

Drop the walls, flex, let go both inward and outward. It feels good to finally relax into being.

A fine adding to the tapestry we’re weaving here Richard, thank you. Inward and outward, yes, that’s the space and openness we’re looking for.
