The question that tends to pop up after that revelation is this: "how then to live with the uncertainty that brings?" If there is no static "I", then what of my memories? What of my ideas of who you are and who I am? What of my habits and my living? Such simple truths are full of profound wisdom, what a change to life there must be to truly live in this way. Hahaha... You could always send a letter to the tax people saying that technically you aren't the same Richard that worked those hours and earned that money, so how could you be legally responsible for them? ;) [perhaps, they'd counter-argue that in that case, the money you've earned isn't yours and take your savings... hahaha]. After all, the Richard that started reading your post, wasn't the Richard that started typing this comment, and neither of them will be the Richard who'll press the "Submit Comment" button. Neurons will have fired, thoughts will have been had, memories accumulated, metabolic processes have moved on slightly. Those Richards are gone and one has yet to be.
